Personal Information Protection Act (2023.03.14)

The Personal Information Protection Act has been promulgated to improve personal information policies. It newly defines “mobile video information processing devices” like drones and automated vehicle cameras, and prohibits filming using the devices in public places without consent. Personal information processors are also prohibited from providing, entrusting, or storing any collected personal information to foreign countries without proper consent. The act also grants individuals the right to reject decisions made by automated systems that impact their rights. Violations may result in penalties, suspended transfers, and damage compensation of up to 5 times the incurred damages.
