Under the current law, the vehicle manufacturer or parts manufacturer, etc. shall take defect rectification measures without delay for any defect in design, manufacturing, or performance. In the case of the defect related to the overstated FE or engine output, the manufacturer is allowed to provide economic compensation rather than taking rectification measures. However, concerns are raised that EV owners are not covered by economic compensation for overstated EV driving range. Thus, a group of lawmakers presented a bill proposal to provide economic compensation for EV owners. It aims to protect the rights and interests of EV consumers and improve the current system.

  • Add two items to the scope of economic compensation for manufacturing defect (MVCA Article 31)
    •  overstated EV driving range
    •  reduced performance caused by the rectification measures
