With the urgent need to address concerns over a series of EV fires and costly burden of recall on the manufacturers, a group of lawmakers presented a bill proposal for MVCA concerning the battery type approval system on August 19, 2022. The bill proposal includes the following provisions:
- Registration of the EV traction battery identification number (Article 7)
- Type approval of main EV parts and its modification certification (Article 30-7)
- Exemption from the self-certification investigation test (Article 30-3)
- Type approval procedure (Article 30-8)
- Penalties (Article 79 and 81)
