Currently, the automatic emergency call system is mandatory in European countries. In Korea, the proposal for mandatory e-Call first emerged in 2019. Since then, it has been pending due to lack of consultations between ministires. As part of efforts to reduce the number of fatalities and severe injuries in Korea, a group of lawmakers proposed a bill for mandatory installation of the Emergency Call (e-Call) system. e-Call automatically detects a traffic crash, calls the emergency services and informs the vehicle’s location, along with information on time of accident and direction of travel.
