MOLIT plans to shift from the self-certification system to the type approval system for EV components such as traction batteries. The KATRI battery center in Gwangju province may be designated as a testing agency. Manufacturers presented concerns and opinions as follows:
- Need to confirm who is subject to the type approval, the manufacturer or supplier
- Need to unify the list of main EV components between MOLIT and MOE
- Raised concerns over fairness concerning KOR-US FTA
- Raised concerns over the burden on importers
