Proposed Bill Seeks to Mandate Installation of Event Data Recorders in Vehicles
The recent incidents of sudden unintended acceleration in vehicles have highlighted the importance of analyzing data from event data recorders (EDRs) to determine the cause of such accidents. However, the installation of EDRs is not mandatory, and there is no standardization for decoding the recorded data. As a result, it is difficult to conduct effective investigations into these accidents. To address this issue, a new bill has been proposed that would require the mandatory installation of EDRs in vehicles and the development of guidelines for decoding the recorded data.
