Bill Proposal for Personal Information Protection Act

A proposed bill aims to enhance the Personal Information Protection Act by regulating “mobile video information processing devices” like drones and automated vehicle cameras. Filming people or objects in public places using not only CCTV in the vehicle but also mobile video information processing devices without consent will be strictly prohibited. In addition, personal information processors will be prohibited from providing, entrusting, or storing any collected personal information to foreign countries without proper consent.These measures aim to protect privacy rights and deter misuse of personal information. Major provisions include the following.

  • Definition of mobile video information processing device (Article 2)
  • Restrictions on the operation of mobile video information processing device (Article 25-2)
  • Transfer of personal information to foreign countries (Article 28-8)
