KATRI presented a number of drafts for KNCAP test protocols. It seeks to enhance test procedures and to harmonize some provisions with EuroNCAP. In particular, car-to-car compatibility will be assessed from 2024. Major details are as follows:

KNCAP Car-to-Car crash compatibility

  • Enhance crash safety by assessing compatibility (the ability of a car to protect both its own occupants and partner car’s occupants)
  • MPDB impact with a trolley
    • Trolley total mass: 1,400kg ± 20kg
    • Impact speed: 56km/h ± 1km/h
  • Modifier: -4 points (2024~2025), – 8 points (from 2026)
  • Assess 3 parameters harmonized with EuroNCAP
    • Standard deviation (SD)
    • Occupant Load Criterion (OLC): 25 ~ 45g
    • Bottoming out: 630mm (a 2-point penalty)

KNCAP VRU Protection Protocol

  • Bumper test area harmonized with EuroNCAP and GTR Amend2
  • Legform impactor: Flex_PLI –> aPLI

KNCAP Crash Safety Protocol

  • KNCAP full frontal impact
    • Rib displacement criterion for front seats and rear seats:
      • Lower limit : 22mm –> 18mm
  • KNCAP ODB frontal impact
    • Driver seating position
      • Head restraint: high position –> mid position
  • KNCAP side impact
    • Seat back position
      • Set it to 25° to vertical, as defined by Torso angle if no design position is given
  • KNCAP pole side impact
    • Modifier for abdominal performance
      • Resultant lower spine acceleration (3 ms) is 75 g or more: 0 points for the abdominal assessment
  • KNCAP child occupant protection
    • Q10 dummy
      • Chest deflection 56mm or more: 0 points; below 56mm: 2 points
