With the rapidly growing number of EVs amid the transition to future vehicles, MOLIT is drafting a revision to the MVCA concerning the type approval system for main EV parts. With the urgent need to address concerns over a series of EV fires and costly burden of recall on the manufacturers, MOLIT seeks to ensure safety and enhance control on EV batteries by implementing the battery type approval system. It also plans to implement a management system for reuse and recycling of the waste batteries. The details are as follows:

  • Registration of the EV traction battery (Article 7)
  • Type approval of main EV parts (Article 30-7)
  • Exemption upon the self-certification investigation test (Article 30-3)
  • Type approval procedure (Article 30-8)
  • Penalties (Article 79 and 81)
