KATRI presented the first revision draft for KMVSS and its TP concerning occupant protection for AVs with the intents to:
- Update the current requirements considering the AV with new types of seat installation and advanced steering control systems
- Clarify existing terminology such as steering wheel, seating reference point and head impact area for AVs.
- Ensure the same level of safety for the occupants on the AV
The revision includes as follows:
- Classification of new types of AV interior compartment
- New steering system + conventional driver/passenger seats
- New steering system + a driver seat positioned as in the conventional vehicle (with the driver not maneuvering the steering wheel) + a long-sliding front passenger seat
- New steering system + a driver seat positioned as in the conventional vehicle + a 180° swivel front passenger seat
- Conventional steering system + a driver seat positioned as in the conventional vehicle + a long-sliding front passenger seat
- Conventional steering system + a driver seat positioned as in the conventional vehicle + a 180° swivel front passenger seat
- Specify new definitions such as seating reference point, head impact area, pelvic impact area, etc. considering new types of AVs
KATRI requests comments as to any effect the revision draft may have on vehicle manufacturers.
