To address the concern over a growing number of casualties caused by vehicle fires and to strengthen safety control, a group of lawmakers presented a bill proposal for the ‘Act on fire prevention and installation, maintenance, and safety control of firefighting systems’ to expand the scope for the installation of fire extinguishers. The bill was passed and the Act was promulgated on Nov. 30, 2021
The revisions include provisions as follows:
- PCs with a seating capacity of 5 persons or more should be equipped with a fire extinguisher.
- The Minister of MOLIT should check the compliance with the requirement upon various vehicle inspections.
