To meet the 2030 NDC targets, MCEE is strengthening GHG emission standards for the transport sector, as current reductions are insufficient. For passenger cars and small buses, the 2030 standard will tighten significantly from the current 70 g/km to 54 g/km starting in 2027, following an exponential reduction path. The current 86 g/km standard remains effective until 2026. An alternative linear scenario targeting 58 g/km is also under review pending industry consultation.
Additionally, MCEE plans to facilitate credit trading by sharing manufacturer credit status through industry associations like KAMA and KAIDA. While the Super Credit incentive for low-emission vehicles will be phased out by 2027, new Eco-innovation technologies will become eligible for recognition to support compliance.
