Electric vehicles have become increasingly popular for their environmental benefits and low operating costs. However, recent incidents of electric vehicle fires have raised concerns about the safety of these vehicles. The fires were found to originate from cells in the battery, particularly components of the traction battery installed in electric vehicles. To ensure the safety of the public using electric vehicles, it is necessary to strengthen the investigation of manufacturing defects for core devices such as the traction battery and its components. A proposed bill aims to specify that manufacturers of the traction battery and its core components are subject to defect investigation. The major provisions include the following.
