KATRI is developing the KNCAP car-to-car protocol aiming to implement it from 2024.
Through a series of tests and study, KATRI currently considers a trolley of 1,400kg and the impact speed of 56km/h to increase occupant safety and to accurately apply the crash severity. It is also working to develop crash safety modifiers such as head bottoming-out and dummy submarining.
However, vehicle manufacturers request to lower the speed to 50km/h and harmonize the protocol with NCAP. They also suggest carrying out tests on EVs to be prepared for the era of EVs. KATRI will review manufacturers’ opinions and also requests manufacturers to provide relevant analysis data for developing the protocol.
