In line with the Act on the Promotion and Support for the Commercialization of Autonomous Vehicles (AV Act) promulgated on July 27, 2021, its Enforcement Ordinance and Regulations were promulgated to specify detailed requirements for the certification management center, certification agency* and verification agency* for autonomous cooperative driving, aiming to ensure the safety and reliability of C-ITS* (Cooperative-Intelligent Transport Systems).
* C-ITS provides accident-related information such as traffic conditions to drivers in real time.
* The certification agency certifies the AV’s on-board units and roadside units.
* The verification agency manages any abnormal behaviors on the vehicle and roadside units certified.
The provisions include as follows:
- The certification management center for autonomous cooperative driving supervises the certification agency and verification agency. The Minister of MOLIT delegates the duties of the certification management center to the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.
- The Minister of MOLIT designates the certification agency and verification agency who meet the designation criteria.
- The verification agency monitors and tackles any activities threatening the safety of the information communicated in autonomous cooperative driving.
