A group of lawmakers proposed a bill for the ‘Special Act for Fostering and Supporting the Future Vehicle Industry,’ aiming to establish improved legal frameworks for fostering and supporting the future vehicle industry, and to converge scattered regulations concerning future vehicles such as eco-friendly vehicles and autonomous vehicles under the Special Act. In particular, connected vehicles and vehicles fitted with new technologies are newly defined as future vehicles, in addition to autonomous vehicles and eco-friendly vehicles. The bill includes provisions as follows:
- Future vehicles are defined as eco-friendly vehicles, autonomous vehicles, connected vehicles with enhanced safety and convenience in compliance with the specified standards, which transmit and receive information via information and communication technology, and vehicles fitted with new technologies in compliance with the specified standards
- The Minister of MOTIE establishes a master plan for fostering and supporting the future vehicle industry every three years. Also, the future vehicle industry committee is established to deliberate important matters for fostering and supporting the future car industry.
- Anyone willing to manufacture/sell future vehicle-related devices or provide future vehicle-related services may obtain certification under the ‘Industrial Standardization Act.’
- The government establishes and implements policies to promote the conversion to future vehicles or the application of future vehicle technologies, and provides necessary support for buyers/owners, etc.
