Currently, 11.9% of total greenhouse gas emissions in Korea come from the land transport sector. In a bid to tackle the issue, a group of lawmakers proposed a radical bill which prohibits new registrations of internal combustion engine vehicles. The bill is designed to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and contribute to the improvement of public welfare.
The Act, if the bill is adopted, requires the Mayor/Do Governor to reject new registration of the vehicle equipped with an internal combustion engine (including the hybrid vehicles).
